Luiz Simas Solo Piano Concert

From Chorinhos to Brazilian Jazz:
The Brazilian Piano Music Tradition

A unique concert in which Luiz Simas presents an overview of Brazilian piano music from the 19th century to the present, playing works by the early Brazilian piano composers such as Chiquinha Gonzaga and Ernesto Nazareth, as well as pieces by later composers like Jobim and also his own compositions. The program highlights the chorinho genre of Brazilian music, including favorites like Brejeiro, Odeon and Doce-de-Coco, as well as Luiz Simas's own compositions in the chorinho style. It also includes a medley of Jobim songs, and Luiz Simas' original piano arrangement, Variations on Tico-Tico no Fubá, based on the famous composition by Zequinha de Abreu which became the trademark of Carmen Miranda.
