A Grammy–nominated performer, virtuoso Venezuelan flutist Marco Granados brings us the music of his home country with all of its beauty, passion, joy and energy.  With his ensemble "Un Mundo," he has arranged and performs the many musical forms typically heard and enjoyed by the Venezuelan listener.  These styles include the Joropo, the Tonada, the Gaita, a rhythmically complex 5/8 beat Merengue, and the syncopated Venezuelan Valse.  Aside from these popular Venezuelan styles, Marco also performs some other popular Latin American forms including the Brazilian Choro and Bossa Nova, and the Argentine Zamba.

More about Marco Granados:

Since his 1991 New York debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Marco Granados' performance highlights have included concerts at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, The 92 Street Y, the 1999 British Flute Society International Convention in Manchester, as well as his thrilling performance at the closing ceremonies concert for the National Flute Association in Columbus, Ohio in 2000.  In 2001, he made his London debut at the fabled Wigmore Hall, with a solo recital of classical Latin American compositions, as well as recitals at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and for The British Flute Society at Queens College in London.  Over the past several years, he has been a favorite performer at flute festivals throughout the US and abroad.

His performing career has carried him throughout the Western Hemisphere – including a recent concert at the Costa Rican International Music Festival, and a performance at Lincoln Center which he co-produced with Cuban clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera.

In addition to his work as a soloist, Marco has toured extensively with several renowned ensembles, including the Quintet of the Americas, which performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  Recently he joined the acclaimed chamber Trio "Triangulo", which specializes in chamber music from Latin America.  Future projects with the trio include a residency at Rutgers University as well as a recording of the music of Astor Piazzolla.

Since 1999, Marco has toured with his own ensemble, Un Mundo – which is dedicated to the mission of bringing the passion and energy of Latin American music to the world.  In his Grammy-nominated 1999 CD, Sunflute , he "brought a new dimension to flute playing," proclaimed legendary flutist Julius Baker. "[His] virtuosity and musicianship are phenomenal."

A member of the Recording Academy, Marco attended the Juilliard School of Music, and received degrees from the Mannes College of Music and The Manhattan School of Music.  In addition, he has studied with both Jean-Pierre Rampal and James Galway.

A native of Venezuela, Marco now lives in New York City.
