Débora Santos Watts

Brazilian vocalist, Bossa nova samba, MPB, American standards

Born in Saquarema, a small city an hour and half drive from Rio de Janeiro, Débora grew up surrounded by music. Her love of Brazilian musical forms, including bossa nova, samba, and Popular Music of Brazil (MPB) has made her highly in demand by musicians of all genres. Her smooth, clear voice and her personable style have made her an important vocalist on the Brazilian music scene. She has performed samba shows with Pé-de Boi and Grupo Saveiro, chorinho with Choro Ensemble, and has been the vocalist with great musicians such as the Cuban pianist Oriente Lopez, the trumpeter Mark Morganelli, and the guitar player Billy Newman, among many others.

Débora, together with her husband, the pianist John Watts, has her own ensemble, Brazilian Breeze, performing a mix of Brazilian and American standards — a highly popular choice for weddings and other celebrations.

Currently Débora is finishing her CD with jazz legend Benny Golson as special guest.
