A versatile musician, Sebastian is an accomplished composer, vocalist, and songwriter. He also composes for film, theatre and dance and has received prestigious awards including the Van Leer fellowship from Meet The Composer, and an ASCAP for the composition of a song for theatre.
He is also a member of Trio Tres de Oros, and Trio Yo Sé Sí, both of which can expand to quartet, adding a horn when appropriate.
A devoted educator, Cruz teaches for the Brooklyn Guitar School, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and has been invited as leader and instructor for Columbia University’s Latin Jazz ensemble to utilize his expertise on Colombian music. During the Spring of 2012 Cruz served as faculty at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in South India where he led ensembles, taught guitar, composition and arranging.
