Duo Cavatina

Award-winning guitar and flute duo

Duo Cavatina is an award-winning partnership of guitar and flute. They presented their New York Debut Recital at Carnegie Recital Hall (Weill) to a capacity audience, receiving rave reviews. The duo’s CD “Songs and Dances of the Americas” has been released on the Cadence Classic label. The ensemble’s recordings have aired on radio stations, including WNYC, Vermont Public Radio, Pittsburgh Public Radio (WQED), and WNTI, covering New York, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. They have appeared live on WNYC’s “Live in New York,” and WNTI’s “Mozart to Motorhead” interview shows. They performed by invitation in Summer 2000 at the National Flute Association Annual Convention, an event that draws over 2,000 attendees.

The flute and classical guitar are uniquely suited to blend together. The melodicism and agility of the flute, the rhythmic precision and contrapuntal possibilities of the classical guitar, the complementary timbres; this is a combination equally at home in music of any century. Carol Shansky and Seth Himmelhoch perform programs ranging from full-length concerts, to lunchtime recitals, school and academic programs, wedding ceremonies and cocktail receptions. They have an extensive classical repertoire, as well as modern compositions from North and South America.

“[They draw] the listener into their infectious enjoyment of the music and collaboration.”
—Edith Eisler, New York Concert Review

“masters of their instruments…unanimous in spirit and expression.”
